Born in Brooklyn
KGBL designs and manufactures in its Brooklyn, New York workshop. Materials for each handcrafted piece are sourced from local vendors and artisans. KGBL designs are unapologetically modern and meticulously handcrafted using traditional artisan methods. Each piece is carefully finished in the round giving limitless boundaries for placement within the space.
CHRISTIAAN BUNCE
Founder / Designer
Christiaan Bunce spent his childhood in the American midwest raised by artist parents. Like any child he preferred playing unsupervised with friends, but begrudgingly accompanied his parents to countless art galleries, studios and museums throughout the U.S. Eventually following in their footsteps, he earned a BFA from the University of Wisconsin and a MFA from the University of Washington in sculpture.
Following his studies he was accepted to attend the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. His art led him to NYC, where after 3 years of participating in various projects and art shows, he opened his own firm, Christiaan Bunce Design. From 2001-2005 he also served as an associate professor teaching sculpture and furniture design at the Pratt Institute.
KGBL is the evolution of Christiaan’s journey from artist to furniture designer - and the pursuit of instilling beauty in the objects he creates.
